PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent a fixed pattern noise at the inside of a device. SOLUTION: In the solid-state image pickup device, a unit pixel 11 which is composed of a photodiode 12, a MOS transistor 13 for a selection and a MOS transistor 14 for a read-out is arranged two-dimensionally in a matrix form and a column amplifier 19 is connected to a vertical signal line 15, respectively. First, the vertical signal line 15 is reset by a MOS transistor 22 for a reset and a reset level is output. Next, a pixel signal is read-out from the photodiode 12 to the vertical signal line 15. The reset level and the signal level of the pixel signal are outputted to a horizontal signal line 18 in turn through the same route (the column amplifier 19, a MOS transistor 20 for a horizontal selection, etc.).
