PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sealing device for a carbon dioxide seal capable of reducing the inserting load of a shaft, and capable of securing a stick-out preventing function of a seal ring to a low pressure side and a sealing function even when high pressure fluid is imparted. SOLUTION: This sealing device 1 is provided with a seal ring 20 and a backup ring 30 positioned in a low pressure side L of it and having a tapered part 35 corresponding to a tapered groove bottom part 12 in an attachment groove 10 having the tapered groove bottom part 12 arranged in the shaft 2, and a gap (g) is provided between a side wall surface 11 of the low pressure side L of the attachment groove 10 and a side end surface 32 of the low pressure side L of the backup ring 30 when pressure from a high pressure side H is actuated. A tapered surface 36 approaching a peripheral surface 3a of a housing 3 from a side end surface 31 of the high pressure side H to the low pressure side L is provided on a peripheral surface 34 of the backup ring 30 on an opposite side from a tapered part 35.
