PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide cooling water passage structure with improved cooling performance, in a cylinder head having two stages of upper and lower cooling water passages. SOLUTION: The upper cooling water passage 2 on an upper wall 10 side and a lower cooling water passage 3 on a lower wall 11 side are formed in the cylinder head 1 through a partition wall 4. A communication passage 6 is formed in the partition wall so as to make cooling water flowing in the upper cooling water passage 2 flow toward the lower cooling water passage 3 and then to make the cooling water collide with the lower wall 11 side. The cooling water flows into the lower cooling water passage, from near the center of a combustion chamber wall particularly high in heat load or between ports. The cooling water flowing into the lower cooling water passage cools the combustion chamber wall effectively more than ever. The present invention is higher in heat transfer efficiency than the conventional method in which the cooling water flows along the combustion chamber wall, high cooling performance is secured, and excellent durable quality is implemented.
