METHODS, BASE STATION AND MOBILE TERMINAL WITH LOW POWER TRANSMISSION MODE

A method for operating a mobile terminal (106) and a mobile terminal (106) is provided for using a low power transmission mode. The method comprises transmitting an access request to a base station (104); receiving from the base station (104) a request to transmit using a low power transmission mode in response to the access request; and communicating with the base station (104) using a reduced transmit power level. The request from the base station comprises a request to disable a base station search function. Application in power sensitive environments, e.g. inside an airplane or a hospital.
