[Class 51 (i).] In the flue 1, leading directly from a steam boiler furnace to the stack flue 2, is disposed a bell damper 3 adapted to be lowered by a chain 9 on to a yielding seating to divert the gases to heat exchange apparatus such as a feed-water heater 10. The bell 3 is formed with reinforcing members 6 and is attached to the chain 9 by a rod 8 which is guided in a bracket 7. The yielding seating comprises a trough 4 containing sand or asbestos.
