<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a compact lighting device for a discharge lamp for generating a high voltage. <P>SOLUTION: This lighting device for a discharge lamp is configured by arranging a secondary coil part 13 of a high voltage generation transformer 10 on a core 12 side, arranging a primary coil part 14 outside the secondary coil part 13, connecting the high voltage side terminal of the secondary coil part 13 to the terminal of the core 12, and connecting the input terminal of the secondary coil part 13 to the output terminal of the primary coil part 14.
