PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a four-cycle engine with an internal EGR system in which defects due to a nonuniformity in combustion between cylinders, dispersion of exhaust gas temperature, and the excessive rise of exhaust gas temperature by the mixing of EGR gas are prevented from occurring by avoiding the mixing of EGR gas between the adjacent cylinders by internal EGR. SOLUTION: In this four-cycle engine with an internal EGR system, an intake manifold comprises a plurality of split intake manifolds connected to an intake passage for a first cylinder among the plurality of cylinders with an intake valve brought in a sub lift state and an intake passage for a second cylinder with an intake valve closed when the intake valve for the first cylinder is brought in a sub lift state.
