PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a self-closing type sliding door closer which enables a pulling means to be surely wound around a pulley by keeping the pulling means in a tensioned state without loosening it, when a sliding door and the like are manually closed with rapidity. SOLUTION: This self-closing type sliding door closer 1 comprises a spring unit 3, a damper unit 4, and the pulling means 20 capable of pulling the sliding door. The spring unit 3 is equipped with a spring pulley 6, and a spring 7, one end of which is fixed to a shaft 5 and the other end of which is fixed to the spring pulley 6 and which enables the storage of the pulling means by rotating the spring pulley 6 through the use of an elastic return force. The damper unit 4 is equipped with a damper 9, a damper pulley 10, a rotatable free pulley 11 for guiding the pulling means 20, and a separation means 18. An outer peripheral end surface 23 of the spring pulley 6 and an outer peripheral end surface 22 of the damper pulley 10 can be brought into contact with or engaged with each other.
