The device has a receiver (10) receiving a digital television signal and selecting a television channel. A decoding unit (20) decodes the channel and a recording memory (30) plays back the channel. An image signal and program guide generators (40, 50) generate an image signal and a recording order, respectively. A control unit (70) receives a user input and gives channel selection, playback start and user input signals to the receiver, memory and to the generator (50), respectively. The generator provides the order as a data packet to an interface (60) for transmission over a data network (4). An independent claim is also included for a system comprising a device for recording a television program.
