The applicator a stick (5) including a mounting (18) with an opening at one end of the stick, into which tuft of hairs (8) is fixed by a fastener. The mounting includes a tubular wall (17) including a punched portion (20), where the punched portion comprises a lateral opening. The stick of the applicator is surrounded by a sleeve, so that the stick forms a space in which a product e.g. lipstick, accumulates. The stick includes two external protrusions at a level of the punched portion, where the protrusions are laterally opposed to one another across the punched portion. An independent claim is also included for a method of manufacturing a brush applicator.
