The method involves pre-defining a monitoring limit value for an operating variable (5) of a power station to be monitored. A current value of the variable to be monitored is recorded more than once and within a finite time interval during an operation of the station. A current monitoring reference value is determined by an interpolation between the limit and current value of the variable to be monitored, within the interval.
