The device has an electronic circuit, which is interposed between a machine and a center and contains a global system for mobile communications (GSM) modem and a communications interface that is compatible to the machine. A memory is assigned to the circuit to store data that is to be transmitted, and the data is transferred by another communications interface, which is different from the former communications interface, to the center by a general packet radio service (GPRS) or universal mobile telecommunications system (UMTS) process. An independent claim is also included for an arrangement for conveying machine data to a center.
