PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus capable of providing quick image data and attaining information transmission in transmitting the image data to a specified address via network. SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus connected to a network is provided with: an original read means for reading an original with a specified resolution to create image data; a traffic status detection means for detecting traffic status of the network; an image data processing means for generating image data of a picture quality in accordance with the traffic status detected by the traffic status detection data from the image data created by the original read means; and a transmission means for transmitting the image data to the specified address. Also, the apparatus is provided with a capacity limiting means for limiting a capacity of the image data transmitted by the transmission means for every destination of the image data and, the capacity limiting means decides that the image data exceeds the limited data capacity, the image data of the picture quality in accordance with the traffic circumstances are generated by the image data processing means.
