PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and apparatus for exclusively controlling a device in a home network. SOLUTION: A control point requests exclusive control authority to a device, receives an RID that is an identifier used to successfully authenticate the exclusive control authority as a response to the request, and controls the device by using the RID for the authentication of the exclusive control authority. The control point can acquire the exclusive control authority for the device to prevent the device under control from performing undesirable operations by other control points.
