The device has a speed control module (13) with a speed control mode for adjusting speed of motion of vehicle to a desired speed. The module has a stop control mode for effecting progressive reduction of the speed of motion of vehicle to the desired speed for stooping the vehicle. A desired speed changing unit is provided for changing the desired speed in multiple steps based on operation by a passenger of a vehicle.
