METHOD OF ANALYZING LIPOPROTEINS FOR DIAGNOSING MACROVASCULAR DISEASE

It is intended to provide a convenient and less expensive method whereby the risk of macrovascular disease can be examined in a diabetic patient. The above-described method comprises: the step of separating lipoproteins of multiple classes contained in a test sample collected from a diabetic patient by liquid chromatography and detecting signals originating in cholesterol contained in the lipoproteins thus separated; the step of supposing that at least low density lipoproteins are composed of multiple subclasses specified depending on particle size and calculating an approximate wave pattern comprising peaks assignable to individual subclasses with the use of the signals detected above: the step of calculating the sum of cholesterol contents in the subclasses having a particle size smaller than the average of the low density lipoproteins from among the peaks assignable to the low density lipoproteins based on the approximation wave pattern thus obtained; and the step of comparing the sum of the cholesterol contents thus calculated with a standard.
