PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily and freely carry out hand-illumination by using auxiliary light prepared for autofocusing, built in a camera, in operating the camera in a dark place. SOLUTION: In carrying out an automatic focusing processing of a dark object, an LED 33 is turned on cooperatively with the half-depression of a shutter button 25, then, the auxiliary light is projected on the object. When the light emitting button 12 on a control panel 9 is depressed, the LED 33 is also turned on. When the LED 33 is turned on with the depression of the light emitting button 12, the illuminating range is enlarged for the purpose of the hand-illumination by switching an illuminating optical apparatus 35 arranged in front of the LED 33, and also, the light quantity of the LED 33 is increased by an LED driver 32.
