The system has a laser (1) emitting a laser beam, where the laser is arranged in a building wall in such a manner that the beam runs below a roof truss and hits the opposite building wall. A receiver (2) is mounted on the opposite wall for collection of the laser beam. A measuring unit (9) is arranged at the roof truss in the area of the laser beam such that the unit interrupts the beam to the receiver during lowering or bending of the truss. A signal lamp (3) and a signal alarm (5) are connected with the receiver by a switch (4) and signal the interruption of the beam to the receiver. An independent claim is also included for a method of monitoring a roof truss of a building.
