An automated system for extinguishing fire associated with a heat source, including a detector for detecting a temperature associated with the heat source, a controller in communication with the detector for controlling operation of the system in response to said temperature reaching a first predetermined value, an alarm operated by the controller in response to said temperature reaching said first predetermined value, a delay timer triggered by the controller in response to said temperature reaching said first predetermined value, the delay timer having an output signal which is sent after a predetermined delay after triggering of the timer unless said temperature drops beneath a second predetermined value, and a fire extinguisher unit directed at the heat source, the fire extinguisher unit being adapted to apply fire extinguishing material to the heat source in response to said output signal
