A rotary shaft seal is provided to improve durability thereof by sufficiently introducing a lubricant to a slide contact section making slide-contact with a rotary shaft of a rubber seal section. A rotary shaft seal includes a rubber seal section(5) and a rear surface support mold member(8). The rubber seal section includes a shaft core perpendicular wall section(5b) having a slide contact section(23) making contact with a surface of a rotary shaft(20) at an inner peripheral end edge. The rear surface support mold member has a shaft core perpendicular plate section(16) supporting the shaft core perpendicular wall section at a lower pressure side. The inner end edge shape of the shaft core perpendicular plate section of the rear surface support mold member has prominences and depressions. The shape of the slide contact section in the circumferential direction of the surface of the rotary shaft becomes wavy.
