The automobile bodywork, especially at the trunk of a convertible, has a frame with an opening filled by a flap lid (4). The lid opening and closing mechanism has a pantograph structure where two struts (6,10) form four joints with the lid and the frame. The struts are of different lengths, with the shorter strut (6) linked to the lid at a point nearer the leading edge (16) towards the center of the vehicle than the linkage point (12) of the longer strut (10). The mechanism is supported by a gas spring (14).
