This invention provides a liquid crystal light modulation element that has good durability against blue laser and can maintain the characteristics for a long period of time. The liquid crystal light modulation element comprises a layer of a polymer liquid crystal composition held between a pair of opposed transparent substrates, for modulating a laser beam with a wavelength of not more than 500 nm. The liquid crystal light modulation element is characterized in that the pair of transparent substrates on their sides, which face each other, comprise an aligning film, and the polymer liquid crystal composition is a polymer liquid crystal comprising a hindered amine compound and a hindered phenol compound.
