PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vehicle support device for stably and surely executing overtaking based on the grasp of the front free space of a preceding vehicle when overtaking the preceding vehicle. SOLUTION: This vehicle support device for a vehicle equipped with an inter-vehicle distance detecting means for detecting a distance to a preceding vehicle traveling ahead of one's own vehicle is provided with a free space detecting means for detecting a free space ahead of the preceding vehicle and an overtaking support means for letting a driver know overtaking possibility judgement information when the distance of the free space is not less than a safety distance with which one's own vehicle is able to stably overtake the preceding vehicle.
