The proposed optical dust meter can be used for determining dustiness of exhaust gases at industrial enterprises. The dust meter contains an optical radiation source, an optical system with optical connectors, and adapters with tangential openings for supplying protective gas. Each adapter is shaped as a truncated cone and is installed between the corresponding optical connector and the gas duct. The length of the adapter in no less than the triple diameter of the adapter. Ptotective gas is designed for protecting the optical connectors against dust and, as a result, for enhancing the operation reliability of the dust meter.
