The present invention provides a method of producing an in vitro peptide or protein expression library which displays a diverse population of peptides or proteins, wherein the peptides or proteins are specifically associated with the DNA encoding them through covalent protein:DNA binding expecially through the use of cis-acting proteins, the library itself, DNA molecules encoding the library and uses of the expression library.
