<p>PURPOSE: A filtering method and apparatus for removing blocking artifacts are provided to effectively detect an edge region with a small quantity of calculations to eliminate blocking artifacts and ringing noise. CONSTITUTION: A filtering method for removing blocking artifacts includes a step of discrete-cosine-transforming video data by blocks to obtain DCT factors(601), and a step of quantizing the DCT factors(602). The filtering method further includes a step of generating filter information on the basis of distribution of quantized values(604), and a step of carrying output filtering based on the generated filter information(605). The filter information informs a degree of generation of blocking artifacts and/or ringing noise.</p> |
