发明名称 Improvements in laminated structural materials
摘要 975,062. Laminates. F. F. JARAY. April 9, 1962 [Feb. 1, 1961; March 25, 1961], Nos. 3750/61 and 11000/61. Heading B5N. [Also in Division B7] A structural material, e.g. for making tanks or boats or for use as roofing, partitioning, or other panels, comprises a number of layers of coarse open weave fabric, e.g. of glass, asbestos, jute, sisal, polyethylene terephthalate or nylon fibres, impregnated and bonded with synthetic resin in sufficient amount to effect bonding while leaving a major proportion of meshes open. The fabric layers may be interleaved with paper or fabric layers and/or faced with reinforcing layers such as glass fibre-reinforced thermosetting resin. The resin used may be thermosetting, e.g. polyester or epoxy resin, and may be used without accelerator enabling the fabric layers to be impregnated and stored in bulk, the curing of the resin being completed by heating, and/or addition of curing agent to the final product. The pre-cured fabric sheets may be shaped before lamination, e.g. to produce curved panels. Alternatively, thermoplastic resins may be used. In examples: (a) a tank is made by winding polyester resin-impregnated glass rovings helically around a revolving cylindrical mandrel, applying in succession layers of open mesh sisal fabric and polyester resin-impregnated paper, applying an outer layer of glass rovings, allowing the resin to cure, removing the laminate from the mandrel and fitting ends of similar laminate material. The wall of the tank may contain dielectric material arranged to give an electric signal in the event of leakage due to the inner layer of resin/glass rovings being pierced. (b) A boat hull is made by laying up chopped glass strands impregnated with epoxy resin in a female mould and building up thereon successive layers of epoxy resin impregnated and unimpregnated sisal open weave fabric having meshes freed from resin (when applied) by use of air jets, the fabric layers being preferably interleaved with resincoated paper, or fabric such as muslin. The resin may be accelerator-free, the fabric layers being taken from store, shaped before application and reactivated with accelerator. In this case the resin is cured by the exothermic heat developed during curing of the outer glass fibre skin and the similar skin which is applied on the inner side of the laminated hull.
