PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve a bridge function by reducing overflow of a MAC bridge database, and to reduce cost of a device by using relatively few hardware resources. SOLUTION: A hash function for a MAC bridge filter improves the bridge function by reducing overflow of the MAC bridge database and reduces the cost of the device, by using relatively few hardware resources. The search strings in the MAC bridge filter are randomized, by using a CRC hash function and the consistent bridge performance is achieved, regardless of the place where the bridge is used. By using CRC as a hash function, it becomes an efficient hardware realization means. Furthermore, the present invention may be generalized so that CRC-M is used as a hash function even for any bridge filter design. COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT
