PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a printer which does not need a dedicated member mounted, before conveying the former and can prevent the components of the printer from being damaged. SOLUTION: This printer 1 moves a carriage 4 along a main shaft 3 and performs printing with a printing head 5 mounted on the carriage 4. Furthermore, a securing member 7 is fitted to the carriage 4 or some of the components mounted on the carriage 4, and a shaft-retaining cam 19 is installed below both the end parts of the main shaft 3. After that, the carriage 4 is moved to the end part along the main shaft 3 and further in the platen 2 direction. Consequently, the securing member 7 can be secured to a hole of a main frame and the main shaft 3 can be brought into contact with the shaft-retaining cam 19 via an adjusting cam 10.
