PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an induction hardening apparatus for a metallic workpiece and an induction hardening method therefor bt which the occurrence of strain in the metallic workpiece caused by the hardening treatment can be suppressed as much as possible and the productivity can be improved.

SOLUTION: This induction hardening apparatus is provided with; an induction-heating device 2 having a coil-head 23 for induction-heating; a supporting means 17 for supporting the coil-head 23 for induction-heating; and a movement control means 19 for moving at least one of the supporting means 17 or the metallic workpiece W so that the supporting means 17 is relatively moved along the portion to be hardened in the metallic workpiece W.
