<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To surely suppress the overheating of a filter irrespective of whether the deposited amount of PM is large or small. <P>SOLUTION: This exhaust emission control system of an internal combustion engine comprises the filter disposed in the exhaust passage of the internal combustion engine and collecting particulate matters in exhaust gases. The particulate matters deposited on the filter are oxidized and removed by raising the temperature of the filter. The exhaust emission control system comprises a target flow set means determining a target flow during the oxidation and removal of the particulate matters within such an area that the heating amount of the particulate matters based on the oxidizing velocity oxidized by the oxygen fed by an intake flow which is the upper limit flow of the target flow is equal to a carry-out heating value carried from the filter by the exhaust flow which is the lower limit flow of the target flow. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT</p> |
