<p>A printing press has a first cylinder with a paper sheet pickup system that transfers the sheet to a subsequent cylinder. The pickup system is so located with respect to the first cylinder that on moving the transfer is effected outside the cylinder periphery but along the line of a tangent common to both cylinders.</p>
