PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a measuring instrument and which can express deep three-dimensional effects with depth and which has high flexibility of expression. SOLUTION: A ring member 17 is made of a transparent material, having an optical guiding properties and formed into a ring along the circumferential section of a dial 13, receives light from a light source 122 and becomes bright thereby. A design section 171 is formed on the surface of the ring member 17, and a reflective layer 172 is formed on the rear face of the ring member 17, being irradiated with light which is emitted from the light source 122 and reflected by the design section 171. Thus, the light reflected by the design section 171 passes through the ring member 17 and impinges on the reflective layer 172, whereby the design section 171 is visually recognized so as to stand out from the reflective layer 172.
