PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical reading system capable of saving the power, reducing indispensable components, measuring whether brightness of a light source is sufficient or not by detecting surrounding light, and outputting an alarm signal by an alarm device when the brightness of the light source is insufficient. SOLUTION: This optical reading system 20 is equipped with a target 30, a sensor part 40, and a processing device 50. The target has at least one prescribed pattern on the surface. The prescribed pattern is printed by a prescribed ink to receive a beam from the surrounding light source and to generate a corresponding infrared ray. The sensor part is used for receiving the corresponding infrared ray from the ink of the prescribed pattern and taking information of the prescribed pattern, and dispenses with an internal light source explained in a conventional technology only by utilizing an external light source.
