PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily confirm, on a mail transmitter side, the transmitting state of e-mail or an action executable on a mail receiver side in accordance with transmission of the e-mail such as reference to e-mail. SOLUTION: When an e-mail containing a document ID is transmitted to portable terminal equipment 30 from a composite machine 10, and a portable terminal user refers to the e-mail, a reference report mail transmission part 36 automatically generates and returns a reference report mail containing the document ID. When the reference report mail is returned to the composite machine 10, a processed report mail transmission part 16 transmits a referred report mail to a PC 5 used by a document owner to report that the portable equipment user referred to the transmitted e-mail. A reference pressing mail transmission part 14 transmits a reference pressing mail containing the document ID to the portable terminal equipment 30 when the reference report mail is not returned from the portable terminal equipment 30 within a reference request time after transmission of the e-mail.
