PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for efficiently producing a medicinal compound (A) having VLA-4 inhibiting action and high safety and to provide a production intermediate thereof. SOLUTION: The method for producing the medicinal compound (A) comprises producing the medicinal compound (A) through an important intermediate (13) [wherein R<SP>1a</SP>and R<SP>1b</SP>are each independently a lower alkyl group, a phenyl group which may have a substituent or a benzyl group which may have a substituent and R<SP>6</SP>is a lower alkyl group] produced by a trans and stereospecific pyrrolidine ring building method using trans-4-hydroxycyclohexanecarboxylic acid 1,1-di-substituted ethyl ester (1) as a starting raw material.
