PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce influence by the format of a recording medium and the individual difference of a reproducing device when detecting the secular degradation of the recording medium. SOLUTION: A DVD drive reads information stored on a DVD disk, and a control part obtains disk degradation information from the read information. The disk degradation information is stored in a storage part together with management information for individually identifying the DVD disk, and the control part obtains an estimated service life from the management information and the disk degradation information.
