PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for operating a blast furnace under condition of blowing-stop with reduced molten iron level with which even under condition of blasting-stop with the reduced molten iron level in the blast furnace, the estimating accuracy of the molten iron temperature at the furnace bottom is excellent and the smooth starting-up of the operation after blasting-stop, is surely performed. SOLUTION: In the past blasting-stop operating time with the reduced molten iron level, the molten iron temperature at the furnace bottom part is estimated based on the temperature distribution in a molten iron tapping hole measured with a thermometer at the molten iron tapping hole or the temperature distribution in the furnace bottom refractory measured with a thermometer at the furnace bottom, an escaping speed Q<SB>D</SB>of the heat to the furnace top with a draft is beforehand obtained with the formula Q<SB>D</SB>=Q<SB>P1</SB>-Q<SB>W1</SB>from a reducing speed Q<SB>P1</SB>of the sensible heat in the molten iron obtained with the lowering speed of this molten iron temperature and an escaping speed Q<SB>W1</SB>of the heat with the cooling water at the furnace bottom. Then, at operating time of the reduced molten iron level in this time, an escaping speed Q<SB>W2</SB>of the heat with the cooling water at the furnace bottom is obtained with the formula Q<SB>W2</SB>=Q<SB>P2</SB>-Q<SB>D</SB>from the reducing speed Q<SB>P2</SB>of the sensible heat in the molten iron obtained with the lowering speed of the preset targeted molten iron temperature and the escaping speed Q<SB>D</SB>of the heat to the furnace top with the draft, and the cooling water supplying speed at the furnace bottom is set so as to obtain this escaping speed Q<SB>W2</SB>of the heat.
