PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide sol for use as a material for various ceramics containing amorphous Zr-O-based particles as dispersoid and having reactivity, properties close to those of a solution and an average particle diameter of 1-20 nm, and a method for efficiently producing the sol. SOLUTION: A reactive dispersion liquid comprising zirconium hydroxide, an acid and a solvent is prepared so as to satisfy 3≤X≤20 and (2.0-0.07X)≤Y≤(3.0-0.08X), wherein X is the zirconium concentration (wt.% expressed in terms of ZrO<SB>2</SB>) of the reactive dispersion liquid and Y is the number of gram equivalents of the acid based on 1 mol of Zr, and the reactive dispersion liquid is heated at≥80°C to form the objective sol containing Zr-O particles as dispersoid.
