PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new oxetane ether compound having carboxyl group, capable of producing a polymer excellent in thick membrane-forming property, curing property, heat resistance, etc., a method for producing the same and an optical waveguide using the same. SOLUTION: The compounds are e.g. 3,5-bis(3-ethyloxetanyl-3-methoxy)benzoic acid, 5-(3-ethyloxetanyl-3-methoxy)isophthalic acid, etc., and they are produced by etherizing 3,5-dihydroxybenzoic acid or dimethyl 5-hydroxyisophthalate by 2-(3-oxetanyl)butyltosylate and then hydrolyzing its ester group. Further, an optical wave guide comprising a substrate plate 1 and a cladding layer 2 formed on the substrate plate 1, and formed with a core part 3 having a prescribed pattern and transmitting light signals, in the cladding layer 2 is provided with that at least one of the cladding layer 2 and core part 3 is formed by a resin composition containing the above compounds.
