For a heating system (10) comprising an energy conversion appliance, such as a gas boiler (12), which operates primarily under the control of a programmable timer (11) in conjunction with a thermostatic controller (14) positioned remotely relative to the programmable timer, the thermostatic controller (14) comprises processor means (17) having a time base function and operable to monitor the occurrences of "on" demand signals from the programmable timer and to distinguish between those "on" demand signals that occur on a regular pre-programmed basis and any signals that occur on an irregular basis, and control means which permits the delayed start function to operate only in response to regularly occurring "on" demand signals from the programmable timer. |
