The device (1) has a current measuring line (5) mounted parallel to a shunt line (7) presenting an electric resistance lower than the line (5). A measurement unit (9) measures current circulating in the line (5), and a control switch (11) is placed in the line (7). A control and analysis unit (13) closes the switch when an energy source operates in high current mode and opens the switch and measures the current when the source is not in high current mode for detecting an occurrence of fault current.
