PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a grain culm conveying system for combine harvester, ensuring a stable engine-loaded state to be restored quickly from a sudden engine-dropped state, in view of the fact that, in a combine harvester having such a mechanism that a threshing feed chain for relaying reaped grain culms from a grain culm conveying apparatus equipped at a pretreatment section and feeding the reaped grain culms to a threshing section is driven synchronously with the combine harvester's reaping traveling speed, it is possible that threshed wastes such as cut straw accompanied around the threshing cylinder in a threshing chamber increase considerably, resulting in the above-mentioned sudden engine-dropped state. SOLUTION: The system has the following construction and mechanism: A speed-reducing control means A is provided, having such a function that on reducing the reaping traveling speed of a combine harvester once when a sudden engine drop occurs, the speed of a threshing feed chain 33 is reduced after a predetermined time delay. During a period of time until such a speed reduction is carried out, the layer thickness of grain culms to be conveyed by the threshing feed chain 33 into a threshing chamber 17 is thinned to reduce the substantial throughput per unit hour of reaped grain culms in the threshing chamber 17 and mitigate the drive resistance of a threshing cylinder 59.
