<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a semiconductor light emitting device wherein a semiconductor light emitting element is being kept compact and luminous intensity in the main light extraction direction is enhanced. <P>SOLUTION: The semiconductor light emitting device 1 has such a structure that a semiconductor light emitting element 3 is mounted to a wiring substrate 2 and the periphery of the semiconductor light emitting element 3 is sealed by a resin package 7. The substrate 4 of the semiconductor light emitting element 3 is square when viewed from the top, and it is formed so that its area may expand from mounting surface 4a side to top surface 4b side. An n layer (not illustrated), a light emitting layer (not illustrated) and a p layer (not illustrated) are stacked in sequence on the top surface 4b of the substrate 4. The resin package 7 sealing the periphery of the semiconductor light emitting element 3 is molded by a sealing resin containing a transparent resin or phosphor, and the sealing resin contains a silica-based optical dispersing agent 8. The optical dispersing agent 8 in the resin package 7 can refract and reflect a light reflected on the side surface 4c of the substrate 4 and allows it to outgo to the main optical extraction direction of the semiconductor light emitting device 1. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT |
