PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a paper feeder capable of pushing up a push-up plate arranged in a paper feed cassette to the sufficient angle with a simple configuration without requiring any drive source of large maximum torque. SOLUTION: The paper feeder has a push-up plate 24 in which one end side thereof is supported in a vertically turnable manner within a paper feed cassette 23, the other end side thereof is arranged so as to be located at the end on the paper feed side of paper sheets of the paper feed cassette 23, and the paper sheets are stacked on an upper side thereof, and a plurality of push-up arms 28, 29 with base end sides of arms 28b, 29b of different length provided with abutting parts 28c, 29c abutted on a lower side of the push-up plate 24 on fore-ends thereof are fixed to a drive shaft 27. As the drive shaft 27 is rotated in the predetermined direction, the push-up arm 28 having the short arm 28b out of the plurality of push-up arms 28, 29 is successively changed to the push-up arm 29 having the long arm 29b to turn the other end side of the push-up plate 24 upward.
