PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a scanning optical apparatus in which the deterioration of image quality due to plane tilt is improved without enhancing the precision of respective components, and to provide an image forming apparatus using the scanning optical apparatus. SOLUTION: In the scanning optical apparatus in which a plurality of luminous fluxes are deflected and scanned with a single polygon mirror 1 for the purpose of forming a multicolor picture by respectively irradiating a plurality of photoreceptor drums 7a to 7d with light, the luminous fluxes made incident to the polygon mirror 1 have respectively different angles with respect to a reference plane defined by the normal line of the reflecting face of the polygon mirror 1 and the rotating direction of the polygon mirror 1, and the photoreceptor drum 7d, which forms a color image having the highest luminance, is irradiated with the luminous flux which is deflected and scanned at the largest angle with respect to the reference plane.
