PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To accurately and quickly decide the image reading start position of a scanner without providing a photosensor. SOLUTION: By using a white reference mark for correcting shading prepared heretofore and a sub white reference mark added newly, the movement of the scanner is switched from high-speed movement to accurate movement in which the high accuracy of a stopping position is obtained, and then an original reading start position is decided.
