<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a surface light-emitting device capable of uniformly emitting light from the whole emission surface, and to provide a liquid crystal display device, capable of displaying the whole picture with clear and uniform luminance that uses. <P>SOLUTION: Among the five lateral faces in the thickness direction, two faces except the three side faces demarcating the rectangular part A are set as incident faces 16 (16a, 16b). These incident face 16a and incident face 16b intersect with each other, at one end of which the interior angle θ is less than 180° and 90° or larger, and form a triangular part B on a light guide plate 12. On the incident face 16a and the incident face 16b, LEDs (light source) 13a, 13b forming light sources are arranged so as to face each other.
