<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an excitation device for a musical instrument that can freely vary a tempo and a pitch even for a playing device that excites the musical instrument. <P>SOLUTION: A tempo/pitch variation part 14 of the excitation device 1 for the musical instrument reads driving waveform automatic playing data D1 out of a storage part 11. At this time, when a tempo specification part 12 or pitch specification part 13 specifies a tempo or pitch, the tempo/pitch variation part 13 performs an expansion/contraction operation (compression, expansion, etc.) in a time direction and time stretching for a waveform according to the specified contents to vary the tempo or pitch and then supplies varied waveform data to a driving actuator driving part 16.
