The proposed device for starting a gas-discharge lamp contains a magnetic core, a control unit, and an actuator. The magnetic core contains a section consisting of U-shaped plates and a section consisting of T-shaped plates. A part of the section with U-shaped plates consists of plates made of thermomagnetic material. As the actuator, a voltage relay is used. The coil of the relay is connected to the mains via a normally closed magnetically operated switch and a normally open magnetically operated switch of the control unit, which are connected in series. The gas-discharge lamp is connected to the mains via the normally closed contact of the relay. The normally open contact of the relay is connected in parallel to the normally open magnetically operated switch of the control unit. The magnetically operated switches are installed in the sockets of the magnetic core section consisting of U-shaped plates, so that the normally closed contact is installed at the part of the section that consists of plates made of thermomagnetic material, and the normally open contact is installed at the part of the section that consists of plates made of electric steel. The dimensions of the sockets correspond to the dimension of the magnetically operated switches.
